F1 Tutorial

Speed & Performance

The lightning speed and the high quality performance is what differentiate Formula one from all the other auto spot events. Formula one engine can accelerate from 0 to 100 mph (160 k mph) and decelerate back to 0 in under 5 seconds which is a very short time and it requires efficient components and engine. In flat straight road Formula one cars can take speed above 400kmph but due to the FIA regulations the speed is been caped below 400. These values are same for all the cars but there might be some slight variations because of aerodynamic variations or road/weather conditions.

Formula One – Safety Gear

When it comes to speed and cars the first priority is avoid any kind of damages that could happen in the game and Formula one is providing whatever humanly possible to ensure the safety of the driver and the supporting crew. There are gears and elements that ensures the safety of the drivers form any possible damages.

Speed and performance

Helmets are one of the important and compulsory safety gear for any motor spot event. They are basically designed to resist any hard hits which may injure your head. The materials used to make the helmets are strong and lightweight so that it won’t give any extra pressure to the driver’s shoulders and neck. As per FIA standards each helmet should pass different kinds of tests and assurances. Normal F1 helmet will weight around 15 kilograms.

HANS is the short form for ‘Head and neck support’. These are designed to provide an extra support for the neck and to protect from collision of head to the steering wheel. The materials used to make these are strong fiber which provide needed elasticity and durability on its strength.

The clothing provided to the drivers are meant to protect them from any injuries and accidents which can cause fire. The suits are made out of Nomex fiber material which is very strong and fire resistant to an extent. Each of these suits will be undergoing different kinds of testing to avoid any kind of issue and these suits can survive temperatures up to 800 degree Celsius for more than 10 seconds. Apart from the drivers the suits will be warred by all the crew members for their safety while working on the vehicle.

Safety car

Safety car is not a gear but when it comes to safety, it plays a major role in it. Safety car will be called whenever an accident or any kind of incident is occurred and this can cause some problem to the other drivers. Whenever an accident occur the drivers coming behind that car may not have a good visual to see where it happened and they may not take it much seriously because if they do the cars behind that diver may overtake him. So to avoid such actions from the driver’s safety car is used. Once safety can is on the track the F1 cars are not allowed to overtake each other or speed up. They should follow the safety car in a line keeping their positions. Once accident scene is cleared the car will be called back and race will resume as it is.
